In March, BABICM hosted a FND (Functional Neurological Disorder) masterclass in Manchester.

Our Senior Occupational Therapist, Leanne Stache, was in attendance and our Occupational Therapist, Debra Gardner, was invited to present, focusing on the Occupational Therapy role in paediatric treatment within acute hospital settings. We are delighted that Deb was able to share her invaluable experience of the OT role in this setting.

BABICM have reported that, “specialist understanding of functional neurological disorder (FND) has improved rapidly in recent years. Yet research shows that there is still a worrying lack of awareness of the condition among healthcare professionals more broadly.”

The training day helped attendees to gain in-depth insights into all aspects of the condition. Topics explored included defining FND, including the importance of language. How common is FND? And which patients are most at risk of developing functional symptoms? They looked at the prevalence and major risk factors associated with developing FND and how these issues are often intertwined in a medico legal case.

The BABICM FND masterclass was an educational and informative day, and we’re so proud of Deb for her presentation!
